β€’ Key Aviation Definitions
Hello everyone, and welcome to our cabin crew training session. Today, we're going to lay a very important foundation by learning the specific terms and definitions we use in aviation. These are selected for our training manual, so please know they are our key references, though terms can sometimes be updated.

β€’ Ground Equipment & Airport Facilities
Let's begin with the core machines we work with. An 'aeroplane' is defined as a power-driven, heavier-than-air aircraft. Its lift in flight comes mainly from aerodynamic reactions on surfaces, like wings, that remain fixed under normal flight conditions. More broadly, an 'aircraft' is any machine that gains support in the atmosphere from reactions of the air. This includes not just aeroplanes, but also balloons, airships, kites, gliders, and other flying machines.

β€’ The Airport Authority of India (AAI)
Now, let's talk about some key ground equipment and locations. 'Aircraft chocks' are wedges placed in front and behind the aircraft's wheels. Their job is to hold the aircraft's position firmly and prevent it from moving while it's on the ground. An 'airport' is an aerodrome with facilities for aircraft shelter, servicing, and repair. It's also where we handle guest embarkation and disembarkation and the loading and unloading of cargo. Finally, it's important to know about the authority managing these airports in India. The Airport Authority of India, or AAI, is a semi-government body. It has two main divisions: the International Airport Division (IAD), responsible for administering, maintaining, and securing all airports under its jurisdiction, and the National Airport Division, which handles all other airports not under the IAD's jurisdiction.
